Not for Small or acoustically untreated rooms and nearfield setups: at 1740 mm tall and 88 kg per side, each channel is a two-box floor stack, not a nearfield monitor. Also skip if your interface only offers analog line outputs, because PMC lists the input as AES3 digital (24-bit/96 kHz) for this model, or if you need a compact/lower-cost monitor.

Product details

The PMC MB3S XBD-A is a three-way active reference studio monitor built on PMC's Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) bass loading. Each channel is a twin-cabinet system: a main cabinet housing a 12-inch Radial bass driver, a 75 mm soft-dome midrange and a 34 mm soft-dome tweeter, stacked with a separate XBD cabinet that adds a second 12-inch Radial bass driver. It is tri-amplified with 3225 W per channel (2400 W LF, 550 W MF, 275 W HF) and crosses over at 380 Hz and 3.8 kHz. The manufacturer specifies a 20 Hz-25 kHz frequency response and a peak SPL of 129 dB at 1 m, and states the extended-bass design removes the need for a dedicated subwoofer. The twin cabinets can be freestanding or soffit-mounted and positioned vertically or side by side.
