Use Players and engineers who want a real free-running tape echo with 0.55-1.8 second delay times and six echo modes (single slap on 1-3, multiple slap on 4-6 across three playback heads), plus chorus, reverberation, and sound-on-sound that can be freely combined in one tabletop box. The balanced +4 dBm XLR input and output make it studio-console friendly, while the unbalanced 1/4 in input's selectable -50/-25/0 dBm sensitivity lets you drive it from instrument-level or line-level sources; the dual A/B outputs can feed two amps or channels for stereo effects. Hands-free performance switching of echo, chorus, and sound-on-sound is available via the five cancel-remote jacks with optional FS-1/FS-2/FS-3 footswitches.
Not for Anyone shopping for a pedalboard delay — this is a tabletop/desktop unit, 418 mm wide and 10.5 kg, not a floor pedal (Roland's rackmount alternative was the SRE-555). Skip it if you need delays shorter than 0.55 s or longer than 1.8 s, or if you don't want the upkeep of a tape transport: tape life is rated at more than 300 hours and requires Roland RT-1L replacement cartridges and periodic head cleaning.
