Intended use

Use Professional studios and post-production facilities that need very high channel counts of line-level AD/DA on a Thunderbolt 3 Mac: immersive/Dolby Atmos and Sony 360 Reality Audio mixing (monitor workflows support up to 32 speaker outputs), orchestral and large-band tracking through outboard preamps, and hybrid mix rooms feeding 32 channels of analog summing or outboard gear. Also relevant to collectors, since this Anniversary Edition is limited to 100 hand-signed units worldwide.
Not for Anyone who needs built-in microphone preamps or instrument inputs — the 32x32SE configuration is line-level only on DB-25 connectors, so you must supply your own preamps and breakout looms. Windows-based studios should skip it: the source retailer lists compatibility with macOS systems with Thunderbolt 3. Small project studios recording a few channels at a time will get comparable conversion quality from far smaller Apogee units at a fraction of the price.

Description

Product details

The Apogee Symphony I/O Mk II AE-32x32SE TB3 is the 40th Anniversary Edition of Apogee's flagship modular AD/DA converter and Thunderbolt 3 audio interface, fitted with two 16x16 Special Edition conversion modules for 32 channels of analog line-level input and output on eight DB-25 connectors. It records and plays back at up to 24-bit/192 kHz, adds 4x4 S/PDIF digital I/O on RCA connectors plus word clock I/O, and connects to macOS systems over a two-port Thunderbolt 3 option card with 1.35 ms round-trip latency in Logic Pro X. A/D conversion uses ESS 9822Pro converters, and monitoring workflows support up to 32 speaker outputs for Dolby Atmos, Sony 360 Reality Audio and other multichannel formats, controlled from a front-panel touchscreen and the Apogee Control 2 software. This Anniversary Edition is limited to 100 units worldwide, each with a purple chassis hand-signed by Apogee CEO Betty Bennett and Bob Clearmountain, and ships with a 40th Anniversary hardcover book and a 3-year extended warranty.
