A good fit for engineers who already run (or want to pair) a high-power external amplifier such as PMC's own power amps and want a full-range passive main/soffit monitor.
Not for Nearfield or small-room users, anyone wanting an active/self-powered monitor with no separate amp, and buyers without a suitable high-power amplifier (roughly 250-900W into 4 Ohm) or the space for a 1.74m-tall, ~88kg-per-cabinet system. Also skip if you cannot accommodate the separate XBD bass cabinet and external crossover enclosures.

Product details

The PMC MB2S XBD Passive is a three-way, passive floor-standing studio monitor built on PMC's Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) cabinet design and intended for recording, mastering, and post-production in stereo or surround setups. It combines a main MB2S enclosure with a separate XBD bass-extension cabinet, giving two 310mm PMC Radial low-frequency drivers (one per cabinet) alongside a 75mm fabric-dome midrange and a 27mm fabric soft-dome tweeter. The added XBD cabinet increases low-frequency headroom by 3dB below 380Hz to drive larger rooms. Crossover points are 380Hz and 3.8kHz, handled by external 32-element, 4th-order passive crossover enclosures that can mount to the rear of the XBD cabinets. Being passive, it requires an external power amplifier and connects via three pairs of 4mm sockets for tri-wire or tri-amp operation.
