Not for Anyone recording only in stereo (the smaller OCT Set, No. 129003, covers L/C/R front-only with 3 mics), and anyone targeting immersive 3D/height formats — SCHOEPS makes the OCT-3D Set (No. 129005) with four additional upward-facing supercardioids for that. Also not for engineers who need standard XLR mics without adapters: these are Lemo-connector CCM compacts, converted to XLR-3M via the included K 5 LU cables.

The SCHOEPS OCT Five Channel Surround Set (manufacturer name: OCT Surround Set, No. 129004) is a five-microphone system for 5.1 surround recording using the Optimized Cardioid Triangle (OCT) technique. It contains two CCM 41 L supercardioid and three CCM 4 L cardioid compact condenser microphones, plus two MAB 1000 mounting bars with a CB-MAB bracket; each microphone comes with an SGC clamp, a K 5 LU Lemo-to-XLR-3M adapter cable, and a case. In the OCT arrangement, a forward-facing cardioid picks up the center channel while two supercardioids placed 8 cm behind it and 40-90 cm apart cover left and right, a geometry that yields strong separation between the front sectors and a clean center channel. The microphones operate on 12 V or 48 V phantom power and use Lemo connectors on the L versions.
