The SOMA Laboratory Ether (current production version: Ether V2) is a pocket-sized wide-band receiver of electromagnetic radiation — an "anti-radio". It has no tuned input circuit, so instead of isolating a single station it captures the whole radio spectrum at once, from hertz to gigahertz. A regenerative circuit plus demodulator makes it a true radio-wave receiver, not merely a low-frequency magnetic-field amplifier. Reception uses a built-in magnetic antenna (long-wave style, maximum sensitivity on the device axis) plus electric antennas printed on the PCB; V2 adds two external antenna pins for connecting conductive objects or 1-4 m wire antennas. Audio output is mono, delivered through a 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack with L and R contacts wired in parallel. Controls are two adjustment wheels (high-frequency amplification/regeneration; volume) and a power switch.
