Description
Boss Renowned analogue 10 and 12 step Phaser in 2 stage settings.
This pedal has been modded with the Pulsar mod. First I changed the input voltage to take 9v DC centre negative. the following mods
work on both stages.
Pulsar mode: I added a toggle switch to switch this mode on and off, When you switch the toggle the sound of the phasing is significantly more throbbing and pulsing sound. There is a brief instance when the phasing is completely off and this burst produces the effect. It is maximized at high Rate settings. Since the LED actually flashes in sync, I decided to mount it through an extra hole in the enclosure so you get a visual indication as well from the subtle purple LED.
Filter Mode: a toggle switch to switch this mode on and off. This mod effectively disables the LFO rate. The Rate knob will no longer be effective but the device will turn into a filter/EQ - by adjusting Depth, Resonance and Mode, you can get tons of different sounds. This is very effective for making a Humbucker sound like a Single Coil pickup.
Gain Mod. I wired a Potentiometer and resistor to alter resistor R79 to be adjustable from 20k to 15k, effectively turning up the pedal subtilty (this in not an overdrive). the range between the 2 value can help you pick your preferred sound level of this pedal compared to others in your pedal chain. I topped this off with a new green status LED.
